Holy Week

What is Holy Week?

Holy Week starts on Palm Sunday (24th March) and ends with Easter Sunday (30th March). We encourage you to connect with the events leading up to Easter, the challenges, suffering and death, so that joy of Easter Sunday and Christ's resurrection is even more meaningful.

Sacred Space

As we begin Holy Week, take time to reflect on Jesus' life and how he challenged the authorities. You can drop into Christ Church Henton at any time between 7 and 8pm, and stay for a few minutes or the whole hour. During the
last 15 mins there’ll be a Bible reading and prayers.

Shared Supper

We remember the meal that Jesus shared with his followers, known as the Last Supper, as we share food together. The Last Supper is remembered at every Holy Communion service, but experiencing it as an actual meal with other Christians is a special experience.

Tenebrae

Tenebrae is a thoughtful service remembering the events around Jesus’ death. We read and reflect on the sufferings, arrest and execution of Jesus. These will be symbolised with 13 candles, which are extinguished one at a time during the service.

An Hour Around the Cross

On Good Friday (Friday 29th March) we remember Jesus’ death and those involved that day. In this thoughtful service
with readings and reflections we contemplate the purposes of God and the sacrificial nature of Jesus’ last hours.
