The past few weeks have been a whirl of meetings and planning as we prepare for Advent & Christmas but finally I feel like we are nearly there! It all beings with our lovely reflective service of Taize this Sunday in Henton church (6.30pm), leading onto our first advent Sacred Space in Wookey church Thurs 30th Nov (7pm). If you have not had the chance to get to one of these, it really is a lovely way to begin the advent season. Sacred space promises just that, a quiet space for reflection ending with night prayer in the beautiful surroundings of our churches by candlelight. It will run every week until Christmas.
The Christmas Experience is really shaping up, with schools from around Somerset visiting Wookey Farm w/c 4th December and walking the road to Bethlehem. Claudia who administrates the experience has been liaising with the volunteers, schools, press and even ITV who may be covering the event - it wouldn't happen without her! If you want the chance to walk the experience yourself, come along to our 'live crib service' on the 23rd December.
It is important to spiritually prepare as well as practically. I will be going on retreat next week for a few days just to get some 'God space' and to prepare myself for the weeks ahead. I do hope you manage to find some "God space' as well over the next few weeks.
I must just mention Lee Abbey, our weekend away for all of our parishes to come together. We have received a very generous lottery grant which will enable us to offer places for perhaps those who might not have afforded to come. Nearly 70 people have already booked though, so get your form in soon if you want to come and talk to me if payment might be a problem.
This afternoon we said goodbye to my next door neighbour Jimmy Watson and it was an absolute privilege to conduct the funeral and memorial service in Wookey this afternoon. It was well attended by family and lots of Wookey friends. Rest in peace Jimmy, you will be missed but not forgotten.
Feel free to comment on these posts, I will update it often over the coming weeks.
