Wookey Church is dedicated to St Matthew, one of Jesus’ disciples. He collected taxes for the Romans  so, he wasn’t popular with everyone, but went on to write the first of the gospels.  Join us on Sunday 24th September from 2-4pm at Wookey Church, as we celebrate St Matthew’s Day.

This year is a treat for history fans, especially those with an interest in Wookey. See fascinating excerpts from a book started in 1789 which details how the Church played a part in caring for the poor, including apprentices from this period.

There'll also be tours of the tower to enjoy an amazing view of Wookey, and tea and yummy cakes to enjoy too! Plus see some of the special treasures inside the church. And treasure hunt for children to enjoy! As well as a bellringing demonstration!
