Henton Revitalising
Exciting times - work is starting in Christ Church Henton!
Latest Update
After several years of planning and fund raising we are pleased to announce that the phase 1 of the work to reorder (make changes to) Christ Church Henton will begin in January. The last service will be on Christmas Day and the church will be closed from Monday 29th December to allow us to make the necessary preparations before the contractors start on January 19th. We are expecting the church to be closed for up to 20 weeks.
The work involved will include:
-
Removing the pews and associated raised platforms to give us an open and more flexible and accessible space that can be used for a wider variety of church and community events.
-
Installation of a kitchenette area at the back of the church, which will include connecting the church to mains water and drainage.
-
Installation of an accessible toilet in the current boiler room behind the church.
-
Removal of the existing oil boiler system which will be replaced with an energy efficient electric infrared heating system which will have a short warm up time and be more controllable by heating areas of the building as required rather than the whole space.
-
There will be a new lighting system and the church will be redecorated throughout.
Further information and updates on progress will be shared on this page.
We are extremely grateful for all the hard work, support and generous donations from the people in our parish who have enabled us to get to this point!
What's helped us get to this stage?
Revitalising Christ Church Henton was officially launched on Thursday 8th February 2024, when there was a presentation evening at Christ Church Henton to explain the need for change and how it could be delivered. This was very well received and there was excitement over the future potential of the church for the community.
If you'd like to read the leaflet from this presentation evening, please click on the button below.
And so began a stream of fundraising activities, which the team had all decided must be fun! And they were!
One of the major events was the Grand Auction on Tuesday 9th July 2024, held at Cedar's Hall in Wells. This was a huge success with many of the donor's of experiences being auctioned off generously offering their experiences to the winning bidder and the second place bidder! It was great to see such a range of items being auctioned and sold on the night, at a range of price points. Thank you to everyone who helped put together such a fantastic event! Whether you helped organise, provided or bid on an item or experience, helped with the publicity, or attended the event - we are very grateful!
Spurred on by support from the community and those further afield since the launch evening, there have been a varied range of events held to raise money for Revitailising Christ Church Henton, these included:
-

-
Garden Party with live jazz music in June 2024
